Homegrown punk goodness

I have admittedly been missing out on few recent great shows, and since I'm leaving Rochester soon (details to come), I frantically realized that I wanted some delicious hometown music before I check out.

Thankfully, the BugJar is my savior, and is hosting a sweet group of bands this Sunday. For less than $10 you can stop by, enjoy the people watching, and vibe to some dirty, DIY, Roc music–some indie, some punk, some....et cetera.

Doors at 8, music at 9, including Bad Kids, Torus, Sexy Neighbors (Brooklyn), and Goons.

Summer Ska Set

Back in action, here's what's coming up in the ska scene for the rest of the summer/fall:

Radioactive Snowshu:
Homegrown punky ska. Sounds like the Ramones with a horn section.
The ROC (Camp Eastman)- 8/7

This is a stick up:
Basic ska undertones with a hardcore finish. Bad Religion-y guitars.
Albany- 8/16
Naples- 8/16

Mrs. Skannotto:
Pure and simple party ska. The stuff pogo-ing was invented for.
The ROC (Montage)- 9/11

The Toasters: All about the horns. Bleating, honking, sweet, sweet horn section.
Buffalo- 11/11

Sunstreak makes it!

To all you "Streakers" out there, get ready to celebrate. Rochester natives, The Sunstreak, were recently signed by Merovingian, the division of EMI that at one time represented Kittie. Two of the band members, singer Tony Rebis and bassist, Jason Sarkis, are from this Streak-enthusiast's hometown of Irondequoit. Ran into Rebis and guitarist, Jack Flynn, last night at the Shelflyfe concert and offered a celebratory high-five in honor of their success. Much luck to these guys in the future.
